West African Dance

Come and explore the traditional African rhythms originating from Guinea and Senegal. We connect, from soul to sole with the sounds the drums. Leaving it all on the dance floor.

 

Caribbean Dance

This hour-long choreography based class will explore both groovy and power soca from various Caribbean islands! Joining this class will not only teach you how to move those hips, but you will also get the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Soca. 

 

Absolutely no dance experience necessary!

 

What to Wear:

• Comfortable clothes to move in

• Bare feet for West African Dance

• Indoor Running Shoes for Caribbean Dance


* Please Note: Your registration fee includes the cost of live drummers on Week 5.


Registrations can be completed online or in person at the studio or over the phone (provided you already have an account with J'Adore Dance). Payment must be received at the time of registration. 

Programs at J'Adore Dance are in high demand, and sell out with long wait lists. As such, any registrations cancelled before the first class are subject to a $25 + GST administrative fee. No refunds will be issued after the start date of the class, however, we will issue credit valid for 12 months from the start date of the canceled program if the registration is canceled before the third class of the session. No refunds or credit will be granted after the start of the third class other than for serious illness or injury with medical documentation provided. Cancellation requests must be received in writing (info@jadoredance.com) and can only be processed by management. Credits are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Dive into the culture of West Africa and take a spiritual, musical journey. These dances are full of joy and rhythm, and are sure to energize your week! Our West African class is taught by Masani St. Rose-Toth, a captivating and authentic instructor with infectious enthusiasm. Masani is a native Calgarian who started dancing at the tender age of 3, specializing in West African and Caribbean dance. Upon the introduction to dance, Masani found passion for the West African culture and style. It was through training under Michèle Moss-Johnston at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, she was able to build her foundation. Still working very closely with Michèle Moss-Johnston and various other artists from Guinea, West Africa, she finds every opportunity to take master classes from artists from various regions of Africa including, Congo, Uganda, Ghana, Mali, Guinea and Zimbabwe. Throughout the years, Masani has worked with various studios and professional groups across Canada. It is her mission to keep the art and culture alive from soul to sole!

Cherelle George is the creator of Edmonton Premier Caribbean Fitness Class and Entertainment group -SocaFit. Her classes have been published in papers and taught around the world in places such as Trinidad , Costa Rica, Barbados, etc and has been added in many local physical education school programs. She has been given the opportunity to showcase SocaFit as well as her dance talents behind various Caribbean artists locally and internationally.

Cherelle’s goal with SocaFit is to continue to spread the love of Caribbean culture with others while promoting a healthy lifestyle through dance and fitness regardless of age, size, or experience. As she focuses on teaching, she also makes time to travel to the islands to train to assist in keeping authentic Caribbean dance & culture alive in Edmonton. She firmly believes that in order to know where you are going you must understand where you came from and applies this to everything that she touches.
