Urban Kidz™ 3-5 yr program is tailored to meet the developmental needs of our preschool dancers. At J'Adore Dance our sessional Urban Kidz™ programs for ages 3-13 have been expertly developed by artistic director Jenna Brenan (BEd, AFLCA, PPNF) in collaboration, Fit Hop founder Jessica Baudin-Griffin, Christopher "Zondaflex" Tyler, John "Comix" Barrella, and Kerry Koble (dance educators with many years of experience teaching dance programming to children of all ages and abilities). All our classes are taught by highly trained instructors who have certified in Urban Kidz™ and have a solid foundation in both dance technique and best teaching practices.

A concept-based approach, in which the students learn the elements and principles of dance through a variety of learning processes (perceiving, understanding, doing, creating, and valuing) is the foundation for all the programs at J’Adore dance.   Our program focuses on conceptual dance education and Anne Green Gilbert’s BrainDance research providing a foundation for a strong where new dance concepts will be explored monthly. Creative dance, imagination, and expression are combined with developmentally appropriate movement, music, and Hip Hop technique to create a class that is fun for all!

Dance is more than a series of steps. Our programs use a holistic approach that provides our young dancers with a brain compatible learning environment. Our conceptual approach to dance education ensures our students move with purpose on the dance floor and through life. Our goal is to shape each student into a Holistic Dancer who is a:

Skilled Technician

  • Critical Thinker
  • Creative Problem Solver
  • Successful Collaborator
  • Inventive Creator
  • Effective Communicator

Jason

Instructor

Jason discovered his passion for dance while in university; but is no stranger to the teaching and performing worlds. You might have seen Jason on stage while working towards his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre at Concordia and other performances around Edmonton. When it comes to teaching, he has years of experience from working at the Boys and Girls Club of Leduc, being a Fitness Kickboxing and Taekwondo instructor for almost 10 years where he designed an anti-abduction and safety program for children ages 3-6; all while working towards his third degree black belt in Taekwondo and first degree black belt in Pankration; and a jr. high math & science teacher. The love that Jason has for performing and teaching has both strengthened and developed his love for dance. Jason is a firm believer in different learning styles for students and dance is a fantastic way for so many students to express themselves, be active and healthy; all while having fun at the same time. Jason has been with J'Adore for a few years where he has been involved in many of the amazing programs they have to offer from Tap, Ballet, to Contemporary. You might have seen him on stage with J'Adore performances as a Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz, as King Louie and part of the river in the Jungle Book or the bearded lady in Cirque Du J'Adore.
